In the process of its formation and development the educational establishment became named as the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute. The Institute opened a branch in Krasnodar, which later received the status of a State Polytechnic Institute. In 1969 the branch of Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute received the status of the Stavropol Polytechnic Institute. The Institute opened the faculty of public catering in Pyatigorsk in 1973 and that became the basis to form the Stavropol Polytechnic Institute branch in which Victor A. Kaznacheev became the head in 1995. In October, 1999 Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin signed a decree on creation of a new higher educational institution in the south of Russia – Pyatigorsk State Technological University which was transformed into Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian-Technological University in May, 2011.
